At Teehan + Lax, I did a lot of writing for TELUS: site copy, banners, email blasts, and this fun project, which was apparently the first Canadian instance of the short-lived Google Gadget platform.
If you don’t remember gadgets, you’re forgiven, but to refresh your memory, they were content modules that lived on your personalized home page.
Based on the popularity of the brand’s critters, we convinced TELUS that it might be fun to have a branded gadget.
I pitched the idea of doing odd observations in the manner of “Deep Thoughts” by Jack Handy, an enduring favourite of mine.
They let me do it, mostly because it would involve no new asset retouching, copywriting is cheap, and nobody would see the damn thing anyway. I told them it would be fun.
We were both right.
